I received questions from our 7th Grade English teacher about how to teach an ELL student in her class that I work with the current novel her class is reading, The Giver by Lois Lowry. Any ideas about how to teach this, whether this is realistic,any suggestions about how to handle this kind of situation in the upper grades. A book, a website...? This student has been in America since April. From Japan, at a beginning level in English speaking and writing. I'm new to teaching ELS, so any help would be appreciated. So important to me to get this right for this learner and for her teacher. Thank you.
